What does a hearing test at Veritas Hearing include and cost?
Service: Comprehensive hearing assessment
Price: $89
Duration: About 45 minutes
Referral needed: No
Result: Same-day results on an audiogram, plus a written report to keep
Location: 37 Lake Road, Frankton, Hamilton
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm
How should you prepare for a hearing test?
You don't need a referral to book. Wear whatever's comfortable. If you already use hearing aids, bring them so they can be checked as part of the visit. If you've had a cold, ear infection or blocked ear in the last two weeks, mention it when you book, as it can affect results.
What happens during the assessment?
History. A conversation about when you first noticed a change, which situations are hardest (phone calls, restaurants and group conversations are common), and any family history of hearing loss.
Otoscopy. A quick look inside each ear canal to check for wax or anything unusual before testing.
Ear Wax removal: If necessary, ear wax removal will be performed with informed consent at an additional discounted price ($50).
Hearing test. In a quiet testing space with calibrated equipment, you wear headphones and respond to tones at different pitches and volumes in each ear. This maps your hearing threshold across the frequencies that matter for speech.
Speech-in-noise test (when useful). Often a better real-world indicator than tones alone.
What happens after the test?
You go through your results together on the spot, in plain language, on an audiogram, a simple chart most people can read within a minute of having it explained. If your hearing is within a normal range, you're told so plainly, with a suggestion for when to check again. If there is a loss worth addressing, Paul talks through realistic options, including the honest answer when a hearing aid isn't the right first step (sometimes it's wax, sometimes it's a medical referral). You leave with a written report either way.
Ready to book? Book online or call the clinic. Appointments are usually available the same week.
